What Is Anahera Aloft

Anahera Aloft is a Chrome extension that captures the web pages you browse and places them onto a spatial canvas visible in the browser's side panel. When you need more room, the ⤢ button opens the full Anahera canvas in a dedicated tab at anahera.space.

Pages are not saved to a list or bookmarked — they become heat-bearing artifacts that cluster together, drift toward related content, and fade when you stop visiting them. The canvas is not a UI you fill in — it is a place you inhabit.

Opening the Panel

Click the Anahera feather icon in the Chrome toolbar to open the side panel. On your very first open, a consent prompt asks whether you want auto-capture turned on — you can answer either way and change your mind later.

The panel header sits at the top — auto-capture toggle on the left, theme and expand buttons on the right. The rest of the panel is your canvas.

Capturing Pages

Two ways to add a page. They behave differently — choose based on whether you want automatic domain clustering or immediate placement.

Enable auto-capture. Pages you dwell on for 30+ seconds are queued to the badge counter. Open the full canvas — a dialog shows "n artifacts waiting in your inbox." Approve them to bring them onto the canvas. Approved pages join domain clusters automatically. Approving a batch closes the inbox and flies the camera to where they landed.

Instant manual capture — works on any page. Saves the page URL, title, and favicon. Lands on the canvas immediately, not via the inbox. The artifact lands as an orphan — drag it to an existing cluster if you want it to belong to one. Add your own note on the card afterward.
Some pages cannot be captured: Chrome's own pages (chrome://), extension pages, about:blank, and a small list of banking and login sites. See Privacy for the full list.

Auto-Capture

Auto-capture watches how long you stay on a page. When you spend 30 seconds or more on a page, it is queued to the extension badge counter — not added to the canvas directly. Open the full canvas to see the inbox dialog and approve items from there.

What's captured Page URL, title, favicon URL, and dwell time. No page content is read — no meta description, no page body HTML, no form inputs, no passwords. Add your own note to any card once it's on the canvas.
Opt-in Off by default. A consent prompt appears the first time you open the panel. The toggle in the panel header lets you change it anytime.
Revisits Returning to a page you already captured reheats its card (refreshing its displayed date and pulling it toward the cluster center). The badge count does not go up for revisits.
Incognito Always paused in incognito windows — even if auto-capture is enabled. A yellow notice shows in the panel header. Manual capture still works. See Incognito.

Panel Controls

The panel header has three controls, always visible once the canvas loads:

The Badge

The teal number on the toolbar icon tells you how many items need attention.

No badge Inbox is clear. Nothing waiting.

The badge updates in real time. The count drops as you approve or dismiss items through the inbox in the full canvas.

Full Tab View

Press in the panel header to open your canvas in a full browser tab at anahera.space. The canvas is identical — same heat map, same clusters, same inbox — without the narrow side panel column.

When a full-canvas tab is open, it updates the badge count even when the side panel is closed. The extension content script running on that tab relays the inbox count to the toolbar badge in the background.

Privacy

For each page — whether auto-captured or a manual clip — Anahera collects only: page URL, page title, favicon URL, and dwell time. Anything else on a card is a note you write yourself.

That is the complete list. Anahera reads no page content at all — no meta description, no page body HTML, no form inputs, no passwords, no cookies.

Captured data is transferred in-browser via postMessage to the Anahera canvas — it never travels over the network. It is stored in your browser's localStorage only and never leaves your device. The extension sends no analytics or telemetry of any kind.

The following pages are permanently excluded from capture — auto or manual:

Incognito

Auto-capture is always paused in incognito windows, regardless of your setting. When you have the panel open and switch to an incognito tab, a yellow notice — "auto-capture paused · incognito" — appears at the top of the panel.

Right-click → "Add to Anahera" still works in incognito. Only the 30-second dwell-based auto-capture is paused.

Switching back to a regular tab dismisses the notice and resumes auto-capture if it was enabled.

The Canvas

The canvas is a continuous space rendered in WebGL. Artifacts (captured pages, notes, URLs) exist as cards with spatial positions. They drift over time based on affinity — pages visited close together in time develop a gravitational pull toward each other and form clusters.

You navigate the canvas the same way you would a map: scroll to zoom, click and drag to pan. Items that haven't been touched in a while grow cold and drift toward the periphery; revisiting them pulls them back in.

Artifact Heat

Every artifact has a heat value between 0 and 1. Heat is driven entirely by recency of interaction — it peaks when you visit or capture a page and decays automatically over time. You cannot set heat manually. Heat decay speed is adjustable in Settings.

Cold (heat near 0)
Not visited recently. The card is dim and translucent. Physics push cold cards toward the outer edge of their cluster.
Warm (heat ~0.4–0.7)
Active within the last hour or so. The card is saturated and carries a soft glow. Held closer to the cluster center.
Hot (heat near 1)
Just touched. Vivid color with a pulsing ring. Strongly attracted to the cluster centroid. The ring fades as heat decays.
Re-capturing a page via auto-capture or manually reheats it, bringing it back into the center of its cluster.

Clusters

Clusters form automatically when pages are visited within 30 seconds of each other — that co-usage creates an affinity edge between them. As edges accumulate, groups of related artifacts naturally cohere into a cluster. Each cluster gets a color identity and a centroid marker. Cards drift toward their cluster's centroid based on recency: recently visited cards stay warm and close, older ones cool and settle further out.

Affinity Edges
Formed when two pages are visited within 30 seconds of each other. Edge weight grows with each co-use (max 1.0) and decays over 24 hours. Edges below 5% effective weight are pruned every 30 seconds. You cannot create or delete edges manually.
Filaments
Bezier tethers drawn from each artifact card to its cluster centroid. Color and thickness respond to stress — a card that has drifted far from the center shows a more strained filament.
Naming
New clusters start unnamed. Double-click the centroid marker to name one. You can also seed a named cluster at your cursor with C — it behaves like any emergent cluster; affinity drift does the rest.
Domain Clustering
Pages from the same domain (e.g. github.com) are auto-clustered on first capture via inbox approval. You can rename or merge these clusters. The auto-cluster assignment is a starting point, not a permanent category.

Nodes

A Node is a user-placed landmark. Press N with your cursor over an empty area to place one — give it a name and an emoji. Nodes are the only elements on the canvas you place by hand — everything else (clusters, edges, filaments) emerges from your browsing.

Nodes are fixed spatial anchors: clusters dock to them, filaments tether toward them, and they stay visible at every zoom level. Double-tapping a node flies the camera to it and opens a detail panel with its clusters listed. Pressing A fits all nodes into view and flashes them.

Drag a cluster centroid near a Node to dock it. The cluster's center locks to the Node's position and travels with it when the Node is dragged. To undock, delete the node with Delete while it is selected.

Adding Content Directly to the Canvas

Beyond capturing pages via the extension, you can add content directly while on the canvas:

Add a URL Press U to open the URL input overlay. Paste or type a URL and confirm. The page is fetched and added as an artifact at the cursor position.
New cluster Press C to create a named seed cluster at the cursor. An inline name prompt opens immediately.
New node Press N to place a Node at the cursor — enter a name and pick an emoji. If your cursor is near a cluster centroid, that cluster docks to the new node automatically.
Notes spawned near an existing artifact automatically form a proximity affinity edge with it — no tapping sequence needed.

Zoom & Detail

The canvas adapts what it shows to how close you are. Each zoom level reveals a different layer of detail:

Working range Cards compact to show their cluster tag and title. Navigate between clusters without losing context.
Close Full cards appear with title, date, and favicon. Card height animates smoothly between sizes so the transition never feels like a mode switch.
Maximum A note strip reveals itself beneath each card — your own note if you've written one. Hover an un-noted card and click "+ add note" to write one.
Nodes never fade. Their emoji and label hold their size at every zoom level — fixed points you can read from anywhere on the canvas. Cluster labels work the same way but sit quieter: smaller, more subdued in color, always present. Nodes orient first. Clusters orient second.

Inbox / Triage

Auto-captured pages wait in the inbox until you review them. The inbox is a triage queue: approve pages to send them to the canvas, or dismiss them to remove without adding.

  • Open the inbox: press Shift+I, or click the badge on the toolbar button when items are pending.
  • Each item shows the page title, domain, favicon, and when it was captured.
  • Select any combination — approve them to the canvas, or dismiss to remove.
  • Approving a batch closes the inbox and flies the camera to where they landed. The teal badge count drops as you work through the queue.
Approving multiple items in one session places them near each other on the canvas, seeding a new cluster if they are temporally related.

Wayfinding Bar

The Wayfinding Bar is an always-visible "Jump to…" search field at the top of the canvas. Typing filters your nodes, clusters, and card/page titles — click a result to fly the camera there.

Chrono Timeline

The Chrono Slider is the timeline bar at the bottom of the canvas. Dragging it left scrubs backward through your canvas history — you see the canvas as it looked at any point in the past 30 minutes (1,800 snapshots at 1-second resolution).

Historical playback is read-only. The canvas tints amber to signal you are in historical mode. Releasing the slider returns to the live canvas without affecting any of your artifacts.

The Chrono Slider is hidden in the extension side panel (not enough room). Use the ⤢ expand button to open in a full tab to access the timeline.

Canvas View

Tune the visual weight of every layer on the canvas. Three presets cover most needs — or build your own with per-layer sliders. Settings persist across sessions.

Open Settings with Ctrl+, from anywhere on the canvas.

Troubleshooting

The panel shows "couldn't connect" with a Reload button.
The extension's session token was unavailable when the panel loaded — this can happen during a Chrome update or extension reload. Click Reload. If it persists, go to chrome://extensions, disable Anahera Aloft, then re-enable it.
Auto-capture is on but pages are not appearing on the canvas.
Auto-capture queues pages to the badge counter — they do not appear on the canvas until you approve them in the inbox. Open the full canvas (⤢ expand button), look for the "n artifacts waiting in your inbox" dialog, and approve items there. Also check that you are not in an incognito window (auto-capture always pauses there). Minimum dwell is 30 seconds on the active tab.
The badge shows a count but the canvas inbox looks empty.
The badge includes pages captured but not yet delivered to the canvas. Opening the side panel triggers the drain and resets the in-transit count.
The canvas is blank after an extension update.
Canvas data lives in localStorage and survives extension updates. Close and reopen the side panel — the canvas restores on load. If blank persists, try the ⤢ expand button to open in a full tab; the data is still there.
Artifacts are not clustering as expected.
Affinity edges form when two pages are visited within 30 seconds of each other. Browsing with long gaps between pages produces few edges and therefore fewer clusters. Revisiting related pages in the same session strengthens existing edges.
The Chrono Slider is missing.
The Chrono Slider is hidden in extension side-panel mode due to space constraints. Use the ⤢ button to open the canvas in a full tab — the timeline appears at the bottom of the full view.
